When I come out of the hotel, I always see this picturesque view with the ensemble of the ancient churches. It is pity that my room does not offer this view, but next time I will definitely try to book such a room, whatever price it has.
So, I am staying on the other bank of Volhov just opposite to the Kremlin. This place is called Yaroslav's court (or Yaroslavovo Dvorishche). In fact, Yaroslav's Court is named after Yaroslav the Wise who, while prince of Novgorod in 988–1015, built a palace there. In fact, the Novgorodian veche often met in front of Yaroslav's Court.
You can quickly reach from the Yaroslav's court to the Kremlin by the pedestrian bridge. So, the morning strolling started with observing the walls of the Kremlin. Honestly, the city centre is so compact, so I even do not need to use any transport here.
There is a huge park around the walls, and in the shadows of the trees you may have a picnic or just sit enjoying silence and solitude.
It is a lunch time. Another worthy restaurant on Bolshaya Moskovskaya street is Sudarushka. The personnel is wearing the traditional Russian clothes, the atmosphere is friendly and the food is very tasty here.
I continued exploring the right river bank, and suddenly I have discovered this unique object. Verified proportions and perfect in its simplicity lines. Lots of peculiar decorative elements outside. It is Spasa Preobrajeniya Church, built at 1374. The church is famous by its frescos, made by Byzantine artist Theophanes the Greek.
Sunday. And lots of people are gathering at the public beach right under the walls of the Kremlin. First, I was confused about the fact that people are walking naked not far from the churches, where some worshipers come with sorrow and mourning, but later I also took off my t-shirt and occupied the place on the sand.
Very relaxed day. Tomorrow I will wake up earlier to come on the beach for sunbathing and enjoying my final day of staying in Novgorod.
