Europe, In Bruges

Brugge city viewThe gingerbread houses of Bruges

The breakfast at the hotel starts at 6:30, and it costs only 7.50 euro. For this price you would get a rather wide range of food starting with cheese and ending with donuts. They also provide you with freshly grounded coffee and muesli.

After having a snack we headed for the city centre. The weather is fine, and it undoubtedly encourages a good walking.

We have made a big walk around the central part of the city and visited the most remarkable places of Bruges. However, I would like specifically to mention the hidden and silent place of the Beguinage. Remarkably, it is the only preserved place of its kind in all Belgium, and, moreover, it was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
First, you enter the Beguinage over a small bridge and through a gatehouse dating from 1776, and then you find yourself in front of the expansive lawn planted with poplars and surrounded by groups of white-coloured houses. Sea of tranquility. If you want to stay in the most silent spot in the city centre, you should come here.

Another remarkable sights, which are located outside the busy centre, are wind mills positioned along the ramparts. In general, there are four mills with the names of Koeleweimill, Nieuwe Papegaai, Bonne Chiere and Sint Janshuismolen. Sint Janshuismolen is the oldest mill dated from 1770, and it still grinds flour.

After having the lunch we continued our excursion program. Of course, we could not skip the Belfort, one of the city's most prominent symbols. This medieval bell tower was built in the 13th century, and it used to house the treasury and the municipal archives. These days it is 83 meters high, and tourists should pay 12 euro to have opportunity to climb 366 steps and enjoy unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and its surroundings.

Later we had a boat trip along the canals of the city. The excursion lasted 30 minutes and the cost was only 8 euro. All the way along the guide was providing us with the information about the buildings on the banks in two languages - French and English. Honestly, there was not so much exciting information, but there were breathtaking views and memorable photos! Undoubtedly, the visit to the marvelous city of Bruges would not be complete without a boat trip along its magical canals!

The evening at the hotel was devoted to watching a tragic movie In Bruges with Colin Farrell. I suppose, tomorrow we will try to locate all the spots, which we saw in the movie.
